This Italian design icon gives a sparkling effect like a bracelet of precious stones. The effect is created by light being diffused through a dome-like screen of individual acrylic glass spheres mounted on top of a tall metal stand. It is described as a contemporary version of the sparkling crystal chandeliers of Italian glass making tradition.
A white satinised blown glass screen is mounted horisontally inside the dome of balls to diffuse light downwards and outwards and to prevent glare. The lamp includes a dimmer.
The lamp was designed in 2005 by Urquiloa and Gerotta. Patricia Urquiola is an internationally renowned architect and designer and the she has received acknowledgements such as the "Designer of the Decade" title from Home and Häuser magazines, "Designer of the Year" from Wallpaper, Ad Spain, Elle Decor International and Architektur and Wohnen Magazine. Eliana Gerotta has worked as a designer for Parisian magazine Elle, and for the Venice Biennale.
Condition: Good second hand. The dome is very delicate and six of the acrylic spheres came loose from their brackets. These have been restored with the use of hot glue. One sphere at the back of the lamp is missing. The dome of spheres is modular and all parts can be ordered.
