Tables with solid wood tops are scarce. It is not only a question of quality but also of practicality, since large solid slabs of wood tend to buckle over time with changes in temperature and humidity. But if done well they can last for centuries. This table has been done with skill.
We speculate that it was made by the well-known South African modernist company Kallenbach, but there is no makers mark. The table is narrower than most dining tables and extendable. The steel base is very heavy and sturdy.
It is a four seater that becomes a six seater when extended, but it will be able to take more people in families with a disregard for personal space.
Condition: Very good. Sanded and treated with a natural wood oil.
Dimensions: 91 x 167 x 73.5 cm (h) and 212.5 cm extended length
