This is the mid-century English version of the Swiss Mummenthaler and Meier Magic Box compact office of which Huisraad Modern had two versions in stock recently. Eventually the Newcraft Home Office became even more well-known in the world than the originals. It is slightly smaller and has more of a mid-century Scandinavian built style. Otherwise, it is pretty much the same as the Magic Box.
On opening the mahogany cabinet, a leather inlay working surface pulls out, with drop leaves for more working space, if needed. Beneath it is a full drawer for the storage of writing or drawing equipment. The doors have many drawers and shelves for storage and organisation of stationary.
The original Newcraft label is still intact.
Condition: The desk is in good vintage condition. It has some marks and veneer damage that is consistent of the age of about 70 years, and even these have been expertly sanded and sealed and filled, they are still visible. Also, over time the bottom parts of the doors have moved apart a little, leaving a gap, due to the natural sagging and buckling of wood over time. As a result, the lock does not work anymore.
