South African mid-century designers sometimes came close to the Scandinavian ideal of what modernist furniture pieces should look like and what their function should be. This dining table from Duros is a good example. It is aesthetically pleasing but it also has a dual function in an apartment with limited space. When the top is closed, it is a worktable or a dining table for two, and when the top is folded open, it is a dining table for four to six.
The sapele mahogany veneers and this solid mahogany pedestal have been stripped and sealed.
Condition: Very good vintage. Restored.
Dimensions: 183 x 84 x 71 cm (h) and the top is 91.5 x 84 cm when it is folded.
