Brasilian designer Percival Lafer is often referred to as the best kept secret in mid-century modern design. His work has the discipline and clarity of the great Danish designers, but with the added soul and exoticism of his Latino heritage and the massive jungles of his homeland. This set was produced in the late 1960’s and is a truly rare find in South Africa.
The MP 041 is probably Lafer’s best known and most iconic lounge suite. MP stands for Moveis Patentteados or “Patented Furniture”. It has his trademark solid rosewood frames with outward leaning legs tufted and shaped full grain leather cushions that hang from the frame on suspended leather straps and spill over the sides.
The set consists of a three seater sofa, an armchair with headrest and ottoman, and a club chair.
Condition: Beautiful patina, also on the dark blue leather. Not spotless, wear consistent with age and light use. All the leather has been treated and the wood oiled.
