A lovely and authentic sleeper couch from the fifties, probably made in South Africa, but up there with the best of Britain or Denmark. The back can fold down.
The restoration of the piece entailed sanding and sealing the wood, and redoing the upholstery and cover it in a quality textured grey weave. We've decided to keep the original springs (they are still fine) with a coconut fibre layer, which gives it an authentic and rather organic feel, but it is different from the firmness that became the norm recently.
Condition: Good. Some splits in the wood fixed. The vintage mechanism that adjusts the back takes some getting used to, but it is still in full working condition.
Dimensions: 204 x 78 x 71 cm h and 46 cm seat height. The width with the back lowered, is 100 cm.
