A solid saligna wood pigeonhole cabinet, originally made for a state department, where it was used for sorting and filing. It has thirty compartments arranged in three columns of ten, and the cabinet sits on a simple plinth base. The back of each compartment is lined with Masonite.
The corners are joined with hand-cut dovetails, which show clearly along the top edge and are a good indication of the care that went into the cabinet. Each compartment is shallow and evenly sized, so the cabinet suits a range of uses. It would work well as a shoe cabinet in an entrance hall, as storage for crockery or books, or as a filing cabinet in a home office or studio.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The cabinet has been sanded and sealed, and the marks of its working life are still visible.
Dimensions: 85 x 35 x 143 cm (h)
