A mid-century modern queen-size headboard, made from imbuia, a South African hardwood known for its rich colour and its swirling, sometimes burr-like figure. The grain is especially striking on the tops of the two bedside pedestals. Each pedestal is built into the headboard and holds a single drawer with a sculpture-like, full-length timber handle. The pedestals stand on a pair of tapered legs joined by a small stretcher, which gives the whole piece a light look despite its width.
A broad, slim top rail runs the full length of the headboard, and short vertical slats rise between the rail and each pedestal. The centre of the headboard has a padded panel upholstered in black vinyl.
Condition: Good vintage condition.
Dimensions: 247 x 48 x 85 cm (h)
Gap between pedestals: 162 cm
