This is a vintage haberdashery cabinet by Modern Shopfitters of 60 Waal Street, Cape Town, whose maker's plaque remains fitted to the piece. The plaque's five-digit telephone number places the cabinet's manufacture sometime between 1900 and 1950, before Cape Town moved to six-digit numbers. It has a wood frame and base set on solid, turned wood legs, with a split glass top forming a display area above the drawer banks.
Below the glass display are, the cabinet holds 20 drawers arranged in five banks of four, each bank cascading from a small drawer at the top to a larger one at the bottom. All drawers retain vintage brass cup handles.
