This cast iron cash and document safe was manufactured by Chubb & Sons Lock & Safe Company Ltd., the renowned English firm that operated out of Wolverhampton and London. The door carries the maker's oval brass plaque, reading "Chubb's Commerce Safe," and retains its original solid brass pull handle, T-bar locking handle, and brass keyhole escutcheon cover. The body is constructed from heavy-gauge, solid cast iron with robust external hinges, built during the late nineteenth or early twentieth century to provide both fire resistance and security.
Condition: Working locking mechanism and new key, the exterior shows a heavily weathered green painted finish, with a natural distressed patina and surface oxidation consistent with its age and industrial origins.
