A pair of striking and strong bent cane and rattan armchairs, with a single curve forming the seat and back, the angle of the back allowing the body to lean back into a relaxing position.
Cane furniture has been made since ancient times. The pair we have here are not attributed to a specific designer or decade, but the style is much in line with 1950's names like Italians Franco Albini and Tito Agnoli, who made this particular style popular.
Condition: Very good, restored. The chairs were structurally in good condition when we found them. Artisans of the Tygerberg Association of the Blind replaced all loose rattan strands. The cane was stripped and sealed with three layers of durable indoor and outdoor clear varnish.
The shaped and buttoned cushions are new, and upholstered with a bright tapestry fabric with geometric floral patterns on an off-white background. The cushions tie to the frames.
Care instructions: Although the chair frames can be used outside and can withstand dampness and some sun, we recommend storing them under a roof to ensure longevity. The cushions are not weather proof.
