A fabulous 1960s dressing table in walnut veneer. It was made by one of Cape Town's oldest furniture firms - the Duros Furniture Company, who came into existence in 1904, after the owner, Hyman Ospovat (who was the son of a Latvian cabinet maker) settled here and became a South African citizen.
Duros kept up with the fashions and became a leading manufacturer of the Scandinavian style that swept the world in the 1950's. The floating top and shaped mirror were very much in fashion in the 1960's as part of the so-called atomic style.
Condition: Sanded and sealed. Veneer has been spliced in in two places.
Dimensions: 132 (w) x 48 (d) x 158 cm (h). The dresser top is 77 cm from the floor.
