This vintage Philco radio, from the Tropic line, dates from the late 1930's. It has medium wave and shortwave. It is built into a stained walnut cabinet with four control knobs and an analogue display console.
Philco was imported from Philadelphia in the USA, but the cabinet seems to have been made in South Africa. The radio has no backboard, since that is how the early radios came out (before the world became safety conscious), and these models were for the most part of it battery driven models - look at the space at the bottom on the inside for large batteries. This one, however, works on 220V mains.
Condition: The working parts of the radio has been restored completely by a seasoned enthusiast, and the cabinet has been left as is, with a lovely patina.
