A vintage "office in a cupboard". This antique design features a box-like cupboard that opens to reveal a retractable desk and drawer system and multiple shelves for documents and books.
In 1928 the "Magic Box" was designed by Swiss avant garde architects Otto Meyer and Eric Mumenthaler, but this niche furniture piece became popular in the 1950's and 60's when mid-century modern sensibilities became a lifestyle in the cities of Europe and America. They have since been manufactured by different companies in Germany, the UK, Yugoslavia, Norway and even Taiwan, as is derived from the few copies that remain with a maker's mark.
