An original vintage Ercol bed made in beechwood with bow-shaped head and foot ends. These are now rare in the UK, where this one was made and bought, and almost impossible to find in South Africa. It is called a divan since it is such a beautiful item that it can also be used as a daybed in a living room or sunroom.
The Ercol company was established in 1920 in High Wycombe in England by Lucian R Ercolani, an Italian furniture designer who was intent on designing relevant and honest furniture. The company is still going, under Ercolani's great grandson.
The size of the mattress is 188 x 91 cm, which is a three-quarter size. Take note that the mattress is not included.
It has the model no. (358) stamped on the inside of the frame, but not the Ercol logo, which is an indication that it is an early model, from the 1950's.
Condition: Stripped and sealed. One of the long and four of the short dowels (in the head and foot ends) were missing when we found the bed, but we manufactured replacements from a similar coloured wood (light oak).

Condition: The products that Huisraad Modern sell are vintage second-hand goods. On our website, we endeavour to give an honest account of the condition of the product in words and pictures. We will always state clearly whether a product has been restored and to what extent. Take note that even restored products might have imperfections or historical marks. The only way to get a 100% true view of our products is to view them in our showroom in Parow East in Cape Town.
Damage during shipping. Even though Huisraad Modern does everything in its ability to package products to high standard of protection against damage, and to select the best logistics companies in the industry, we cannot take responsibility for any damage that happens while a third-party courier or shipping company transport the product, even when the third-party courier has been ordered by Huisraad Modern.
Returns. Huisraad Modern has a fourteen-day return policy. A refund will be done by Huisraad Modern within ten working days of the return of the product, on condition that it is in the condition that it left our shop, and that it has been shipped on or before the fourteenth working day after the sale has been concluded.
