These lovely Bauhaus desks have been used (and still are) in thousands of South African school classrooms, yet they are difficult to find. This one, from the 1940's, is in particularly good condition with the top and pedestal with drawers all in sold, local hardwoods.

The architect Marcel Breuer designed the first tubular steel furniture in 1925, a step that would revolutionise modern living. Breuer and his contemporaries made their furniture after the ideals of the Bauhaus school of thought - ideas like the creation of a "machine aesthetic" and radically new structural solutions. The idea was also to provide practical solutions that could be mass produced.

Condition: Very good. The frame has been resprayed and all the wood was sanded and sealed. The handles show wear consistent with age, even after we cleaned them, but add an authentic touch.

Dimensions: 122 x 76 x 74 cm (h)
